Vidoe games based on superheroes are starting to become a crowded segment for big publishers and developers. This shift in the market is thanks to the success of Batman Arkham, but also due to the resurgence of the genre in movies.
That’s why, with the segment being so crowded, competition is getting hotter and hotter. We’re being provided dedicated charts to serve that purpose. And, as shared by NPD Group’s Mat Piscatella, we learned that Marvel’s Spider-Man has surpassed Batman Arkham City for the best selling superhero game in the United States.
“Video Games are a huge part of the Comic landscape,” said Piscatella when sharing the chart with the “lifetime sales leaders for superhero video games.” It looks like Marvel’s Spider-Man by Insomniac Games is the best selling game ever in that department. Of course, it has a sequel planned, after reaching such significant achievements.
As a PlayStation 4 exclusive, it was the best selling PlayStation only title at the launch last year. It’s followed by Batman Arkham City, Batman Arkham Knight and LEGO Batman, which makes sense due to how long the Dark Knight has been popular on consoles.
Spider-Man remains on the chart with Spider-Man The Movie (6th) and Spider-Man The Movie 2 (7th), while Batman Arkham Asylum is 9th. Here’s the full chart shown in a tweet by Piscatella.
It’s time for #ComicCon2019!
