Pokemon Go Purification Costs Altered

Purification costs for Shadow Pokemon have been altered, mostly for the better.

Shadow Pokémon are Pokémon Go’s newest addition. They have the potential to be incredibly powerful, but they have to go through purification first. To purify them, Trainers must have the right amount of Stardust and corresponding candy. In a quiet update, Pokémon Go altered the amount of Stardust required for purification.

Brought to the game earlier this month by Team Go Rocket, Shadow Pokémon are the result of unknown experiments and manipulations. Upon defeating a Team Rocket agent in battle, they may leave behind a Shadow Pokémon for Trainers to catch. The Shadow Pokémon initially will have low CP and poor stats. However, upon purification, the Shadow Pokémon will increase CP and improve stats as well as see a slight reduction in Stardust and Candy requirements.

To Purify Pokémon, Trainers need Candy and Stardust. According to a Tweet from Serebii today, the amount of Stardust required to purify Pokémon has been altered, and seemingly for the better. On their website, Serebii details the change: previously, all Pokémon cost 2,000 Stardust and 2 Candy to purify, except Dratini and Snorlax. The new change is below:

• Rattata and Zubat: 1000 Stardust and 1 Candy
• Starter Pokémon: 3,000 Stardust and 3 Candy
• Dratini and Snorlax: 5,000 Stardust and 5 Candy

So costs were reduced in some areas, while in others, such as starter Pokémon like Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle, see a slight increase.

Team Go Rocket members can be found lurking around Poké Stops. Team Go Rocket and research quests associated with them are still in the game, and thus, more opportunities for Shadow Pokémon are available.
