The shadowy leader of Team Rocket has been spotted photo bombing in Pokémon Go.

Throughout the summer, Niantic has been holding special events called Go Fests. These Go Fests gave attending Pokémon Go players the opportunity to catch special Pokémon in the game, as well as received some unique rewards.

The Pokémon Go Fest in Chicago first hinted that Team Rocket will be making their way to Pokémon Go. Several weeks later, Team Go Rocket makes their first appearance in the game. Players can battle against Team Go Rocket Grunts if they go to a grey Poké Stop. These grunts will have special Shadow Pokémon, which are Pokémon corrupted by Team Rocket’s evil and have black auras surrounding them. Beating a grunt in a 3-v-3 Pokémon Battle will reward the player with a Shadow Pokémon.

The last Go Fest for the summer is taking place in Yokohama, Japan. Players who are taking part in the event are greeted with a surprise when using their Pokémon Go’s AR Snapshot. Giovanni, the infamous leader of Team Rocket, will occasionally show up in those photos.

Similar to how Pokémon Go Fest Chicago first hinted at Team Rocket, it appears that Go Fest Yokohama is implying that Giovanni will be making his way into Pokémon Go. We expect him to come to the game officially in the next few weeks, probably before the end of the summer season.
