Many thought that Epic Games would’ve had a negative influence on Psyonix after the acquisition earlier this year, but it looks like something very good is on the way for Rocket League fans over all the different platforms where it is available (including, of course, the Epic Games Store).

The developer has announced in a blog post on the official website that Rocket League is dropping loot boxes later this year. The crate system will be replaced by a front store where you’ll get to pay just what you see and like, without any random factor in place.

“Here at Psyonix, and Epic Games as a whole, we are dedicated to creating the best possible experience for our players all over the world,” reads the blog post.

The team reported that it has taken inspiration from what the team at Fortnite has worked on and achieved earlier this year, where a similar system has been put into place, and Epic Games has been delighted, it seems, with the results.

“In pursuit of that goal, later this year we will remove all paid, randomized Crates from Rocket League, replacing them with a system that shows the exact items you’re buying in advance,” added the dev. “This is similar to changes implemented earlier this year by the Fortnite Save the World team.”

Rocket Pass Premium, DLC Cars, and Esports Shop items will continue to be offered for direct purchase alongside our new system, while in the “coming months” we’ll be further informed about what’s on the way and when for the still very popular sports game.
