Speaking to Chinese outlets, via Gameblog, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has discussed once again the return of the Splinter Cell franchise, which he still cares about as one of the most beloved intellectual properties at the French company.

Guillemot hinted at “new experiences” set in the series, which could come on “different devices” in comparison with those the IP has used us to in the past, and also that such a “comeback” will happen at “the right moment.”

“Regarding Splinter Cell,” he said, “the series will offer new experiences, but it will rather on different devices. We work a little a lot on the license so that it can someday come back. I can not tell you when, because it takes time, but we have to find the right moment to make a comeback.”

This statement looks in line with the rumors of Facebook funding an exclusive Splinter Cell game for the Oculus virtual reality family of devices, together with a new experience set in the Assassin’s Creed universe.

Sure enough, as we reported a few months ago, Ubisoft doesn’t have resources to waste and is investing on games that prove to be remunerative for years, such as Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Ghost Recon Wildlands and Rainbow Six Siege.

There’s a certain reluctance about turning Splinter Cell into a service game, I see, and the fact that an external partner like Facebook might be joining the discussion with some serious funding could grant that doesn’t happen, although on platforms that at the time being are not very common and user friendly for console gamers.
