Activision has done a great job in breathing new life into older franchises which people have fond memories of, such as Spyro and Crash, which have already returned with multiple remasters (for my pleasure, closer to proper remakes in terms of quality of the work conducted on their graphics).
Activision has done a great job in breathing new life into older franchises which people have fond memories of, such as Spyro and Crash, which have already returned with multiple remasters (for my pleasure, closer to proper remakes in terms of quality of the work conducted on their graphics).
However, it looks like those series are going to make the big leap, with Activision ready to fund development on totally new games based on their intellectual properties – this is what was revealed, at least, at the latest meeting with investors and analysts for the closure of Q1 FY2019.
The company revealed that Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy has sold more than 10 million copies thus far and that this, alongside the “great results and strong sales” of the other remasters, is “reaffirming the enduring nature of these franchises.”
The publisher sees indeed “beyond remasters, a lot of opportunities to innovate and think about totally new content within these IP — a lot of growth opportunity for Activision based on those IP.” So it’s a given that their strategy for Crash and Spyro will lead to new games in those series.
On top of that, Activision has also revealed that it is looking into remastering more classic titles of other franchises in the future, following the steps of such encouraging initiatives with its two mascots. They even said that you should “stay tuned for future announcements on remasters of other franchises.”
Which franchises could they be talking about? We’ll leave it to you, so don’t forget to share a comment below!
Here is a more thorough run through of the Crash related portions of the Acti earnings call today.
Other summaries seemed to put portions out of order or slightly misinterpret comments so I’m glad I listened to it myself. pic.twitter.com/y2q0rS2tBD
