Nintendo has had quite a good month of July this year, thanks to the release of Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Switch keeping up the momentum all over the world. In the United States, more than in the rest of the world, those have proven somewhat successful last month.
As shared by the NPD Group, in fact, Nintendo Switch has been once again the best selling console in the US and remains the best selling console of the entire 2019. This despite a negative peak in sales of all the current-gen systems.
“Hardware spending in July 2019 fell 22 percent when compared to a year ago, to $169 million,” NPD analyst Mat Piscatella said, as reported by GamesBeat. “Year-to-date hardware spending has declined 21 percent versus a year ago, to $1.5 billion. Spending declined across all in-market console platforms in July, while only Nintendo Switch has experienced sales gains year to date.”
As said, Fire Emblem: Three Houses had a great debut despite not being on top of the chart in terms of sales in July. The game has indeed been beaten by Madden NFL 20, a giant in the United States, so this defeat doesn’t sound particularly harsh for Nintendo.
Instead, this happens to make it for the best debut in the history of the franchise in the United States, and that’s not even counting the digital sales on the Nintendo eShop (Madden NFL 20‘s are counted in, by the way). It’s already said to be “very close” to beating Awakening as the best selling game in the franchise ever in the US.
