The Final Fantasy VIII Remaster appears at this time to be a digital-only release.
The highly anticipated Final Fantasy VIII Remastered will be released digitally only. The game is one of the more popular Final Fantasy games not to be included in current-day consoles, and the game’s noticeably absent in the Switch’s lineup lead to memes online.
Nintendo Everything was one of the first to report that the Final Fantasy VIII Remastered will be released digitally only. Square Enix, the publishers of the Final Fantasy titles, confirmed the news on their Japanese website.
Though that news may come across as disappointing to some fans, it isn’t too surprising. Whereas Final Fantasy X and XII Remastered received physical releases, the VII and IX Remastered were digital-only. VII, VIII, and IX were all released on the original PlayStation 1, so it would have been odd if VIII was the only one from the original PS to get a physical release, while the other two don’t.
The narrative of the original Final Fantasy VIII is centered on a group of teen mercenaries who need to stop a nefarious sorceress. Their journey leads them to confront a threat at the end of the time of itself.
The Final Fantasy VIII Remastered is slated to release on September 3.
