As you might know, Hideo Kojima is a huge fan of movies, so every time he can, he talks about that passion. This time around, he has used a film reference to discuss his incoming game, Death Stranding, and give us a more concrete idea about what to expect from it.
In particular, Kojima shared more on the multiplayer component of the game, claiming that it will remind of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, as our Sam won’t be the only Sam in the world of Death Stranding but, similarly to Into the Spider-Verse‘s Miles Morales who discovers there are more Spider-Mans, there will be more Sams.
This is something that happens all the time in gaming if you consider how many people play single-player titles around the world, but this time the game will acknowledge that, and possibly react in unexpected ways to the fact that there are so many Sams journeying at the same time.
“The more you play, the more you will notice that he isn’t the only one in this situation,” Kojima said in an interview with a French YouTube channel, as shared by DualShockers. “At launch, there will probably be millions of people who will play, and you will be connected to them using something.”
“Miles thinks he is the only Spider-Man, then different characters from different alternate dimensions also become Spider-Man and meet up. All of a sudden Miles is not alone!” the Japanese game designer and director said, letting us know he has watched the movie. “Of course, Death Stranding will be different, but it’s a clue towards what the game is about.”
We’ll hopefully hear more about the multiplayer before the launch on November 8, 2019. Perhaps at the Tokyo Game Show between September 12 and 16 already? In the meantime, it was hinted that the peeing feature shown at Gamescom will have something to do with this component.
