Astral Chain is already looking like a great success for developer Platinum Games as the UK physical sales charts have revealed. The game hit the number one spot, becoming the first Platinum Games title to do so. Previously, their highest ranking game in physical sales had been Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, which got to number two.

It was also a very competitive week in the charts, with lots of new entries, and some close competition among the top four games.

  1. Astral Chain
  2. Wreckfest
  3. Man of Medan
  4. Control
  5. Mario Kart 8: Deluxe
  6. Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled
  7. Super Mario Maker 2
  8. Marvel’s Spider-Man
  9. Grand Theft Auto V
  10. Tom Clancy’s The Division 2

Digital Sales are not included in this data, and Nintendo does not make download data available, but the physical sales are a strong indicator that Astral Chain will have done well in the digital space as well.

According to GameIndustry.biz, competition among the top four games was incredibly close, with just 1,500 unit sales separating them. The Top 10 continues to show how much presence Nintendo Switch has in the physical space, possibly due to the low storage space on the console itself. A lot of people will prefer to buy physical copies of the game rather than download it from the eShop. This way, they can avoid continually needing to juggle the games they have installed.

Either way, the Nintendo Switch consistently has a strong presence in physical sales, which is excellent news for fans of the platform. The fact that the physical sales of a one platform game can outsell games that released on multiple platforms, even if by the slimmest of margins, shows just how much engagement the Nintendo Switch has with its customers.
