According to reports from local players, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is being banned in Russia, at least on PlayStation Store for PS4.

While other versions are still available, there’s a chance they might be retired very soon, as it wouldn’t make much sense for Xbox One and PC copies to be around with PlayStation 4 cut out of the game.

Players have found out of the ban thanks to the release of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare beta, available elsewhere but not in Russia.

Also, pre-orders on PlayStation Store were canceled and refunds were automatically issued to players that had purchased the game digitally.

Sony support told users that the game “won’t be sold on Russian PS Store, including pre-orders,” which is coherent with the way retail sales are being conducted – basically, pre-orders have never been available outside of digital stores.

As this is the first time that Call of Duty gets banned in Russia, there’s the chance that this might be due to the highly controversial campaign that is being developed for the single-player mode of Modern Warfare, something that is said to be somewhat in line with the infamous “No Russian” mission of Modern Warfare 2.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is releasing on October 25, 2019.
