Due to its Epic Games Store exclusivity, someone was expecting the Borderlands 3 PC launch to be a disaster. But it looks like it is doing just fine.
As shared by Gearbox Software’s chief executive officer, Randy Pitchford, it is performing way better than the previous chapters, previously released on Steam.
“Fun Fact,” said Pitchford on Twitter. “On PC, the data is that the launch day peak concurrent players of Borderlands 3 is about *twice-as-high* as the all-time peak concurrent players of Borderlands 2. WOW! You guys are great!”
Borderlands 2 released seven years ago and, while it did not have the biggest launch of all time, it kept performing well for its entire existence. To the point that it was being played a lot even mere days before the release of Borderlands 3.
Pitchford didn’t reveal any precise numbers but, as shared on Eurogamer, Borderlands 2 peaked at 124,678 users at launch. These numbers would mean Borderlands 3 had to peak at 248,000 players on the day of its release, last Friday.
Sure enough, while we won’t have precise figures, the launch of the latest iteration of the looter shooter series has been somewhat successful. At least, successful enough not to make Gearbox regret the decision of shipping it exclusively on the Epic Games Store for six months.
