Risk of Rain 2’s Skills 2.0 update is coming today! We got to play it a little early, and we think you are going to have a lot of fun with the new content.
I am deeply, deeply in love with Risk of Rain 2. Hopoo’s smash hit is a great way to spend some time with friends, trying to get the best builds and rushing around levels trying to find the teleporter. I have been sold on the game since it launched into Early Access, and the last update let me know it was headed in the right direction.
The Skills 2.0 update adds a whole new aspect to the game, however, and along with new items, levels, a new Survivor and new things to fight, it adds more than enough meat to the game to get people who feel they had seen it all back into the swing of things.
I’ve being playing the update for a couple of days now (thanks to Hopoo for letting me have a poke around) and if anything I love the game more now than ever. The most significant part of the update for me is Loadouts. Each Survivor now has a set of their own Challenges, once you manage to achieve the challenge, you’ll unlock a new variant skill, and a new Loadouts tab will appear on your Survivor selection screen. This brings some lovely variety to the Survivors you thought you knew so well, and the Challenges are not easy, so it will be a fun time as you try to unlock them all. Some of these Challenges will also unlock new skins as well, so you can look extra dapper while you head out for a new run on your main.
We also have a new Survivor in the form of Loader, who is just incredibly fun to play. I haven’t been able to spend enough time with him yet to let you know how he stacks up on a tier list, but he certainly has a unique playstyle. He is hidden away behind his own little quest you will need to complete to unlock him, and of course he comes with his own Challenges to unlock Loadout variant skills as well.
The new Siren’s Call stage brings a whole new level to explore, with its own secrets and new enemies as well, and there is also a new hidden area called the Gilded Coast. There are also some seriously powerful new items for you to unlock, which is great to see.
If you have already sank hundreds of hours into Risk of Rain 2 and were wondering if this update would keep you coming back, then that certainly seems to be the case. With this update, Hopoo has given us a glimpse on how they plan to add real interest and depth to the game, and I am loving what I have seen so far.
