Over the last few years, there’s been a lot of commotion about the Dead Island IP, and in particular, about the troubled development of the much-anticipated sequel Dead Island 2. Now it looks like there’s a plan at THQ Nordic to release it on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett in 2020.

After the game has been shifted to the internal developer Dambuster Studios, the team behind Homefront Revolution, we get to learn that it is expected to ship “alongside” the next generation consoles, so it should even be a launch title after an E3 2020 reveal.

“Also, the team is also apparently working on some new gore technology that utilizes ‘sub polygon displacement,'” the leak states, which is remind us of the likes of The Surge, only with zombies and some more gore.

“Finally, as a kind of obvious statement, the team at THQ Nordic does have PS5 dev kits, and they do, in fact, look like the leaks,” which feels like a confirm that the studio is aiming the next generation at this stage.

We also hear that TimeSplitters 4, also in the making at Dambuster Studios, is “early in development but still has some playable builds.” It’s aiming next generation, too, as “it will be released sometime after Dead Island 2.”

Please note it’s a rumor until further notification from the developer and the publisher, even though it’s an exciting one.
