We’ve been reporting for a while that Blizzard was going to work on a Diablo 2 Remastered version that, similarly to Warcraft 3 Reforged, would’ve allowed people to play that classic under a new light. That chapter is easily the most beloved in the franchise so we would understand the reason for a remaster.
We’ve been reporting that Blizzard was planning a Diablo 2 Remastered version, similar to Warcraft 3 Reforged. Those who never experienced the classic games would have had a chance, and those who already have would get a reworked version.
The announcement didn’t happen at BlizzCon 2019. Potentially, Bllizard might have changed its plans on the fly, or the rumor might’ve been a fake. From the latest rumors, it seems that those plans might have changed slightly before BlizzCon.
According to intel from Reddit, “Diablo II Remake/Remaster was planned, but they later realized that it would be much better to give the franchise a complete reset and put majority of the fans requests into 1 giant package.”
For those who have watched streams and trailers of Diablo 4, you may have noticed that the game matches Diablo 2 in several ways. They have similar gameplay mechanics and story tone, along with numerous technical improvements. All of this comes with a modern twist.
It looks like Blizzar considered shifting from having two ongoing projects to having one. Perhaps the Diablo 2 Remastered started out game to give to fans before Diablo 4.
