Project xCloud is not getting exclusive games, as noted by Microsoft in a press release. A previous statement from Project xCloud CVP Kareem Choudhry had strongly hinted at “early talks” undergoing for exclusive titles to be released on the cloud gaming platform.

“We’re very early in the multi-year journey for Project xCloud, which is currently in public preview. We are investigating a variety of new capabilities made possible by the cloud,” said a spokesperson in a note issued to Gamasutra.

Microsoft further stated that consoles are still having a dominant position in its plan for the future of gaming, as “however, we remain committed to an approach with game streaming that is complementary to console and have no plans for cloud-exclusive content at this time.”

In a previous interview with Stevivor, Choudhry mentioned that “in terms of [Project xCloud] exclusives, we’re in early talks with first – and third – parties, but we don’t have any announcements to share,” and exclusive content might take “eighteen months to two years [to develop].”

The statement sparked a bit of confusion among Xbox supporters since they had been told in the past that Microsoft would focus on consoles for the foreseeable future and that xCloud would work as a “complement” to Xbox One and Scarlett.

However, Project xCloud is seeing strong popularity in the community, as noted by General Manager Catherine Gluckstein. “The UK South is our busiest data center in the first month of the preview. Interestingly, [between] eight and 10 o’clock at night,” she told Stevivor in an interview during X019. “Although we do have notes from people saying, ‘Never have I had so much fun at work.'”

The cloud gaming platform is currently in a public preview only available in the United Kingdom, the United States, and Korea, but is also coming to Western Europe and Canada in 2020, as shared during the latest Inside Xbox.
