How to change roof color in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

A splash of color.
This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

When you first upgrade your humble tent to a nice house, you will have the option to choose a roof color. If you pick the wrong one or just get tired of it over time, you might be wondering if you can change it. The good news is that yes, you can change the roof color. The bad news is that it is a little bit a grind.

There are actually two ways to change your roof color in the game. The first is to pay back your entire loan for the house to Tom Nook. To do this, you will need lots of Bells, 98,000 of them in fact. Bells can be earned by selling items to Timmy Nook, and it’s actually quite easy to make a lot of money just by bringing all the items you don’t need to the shop and selling them.

Load Repayments

To pay off some of your load, head to the kiosk in the Resident Services tent, then select the ABD option. Select Loan Repayments, then pay off as much as you like. Continue to do this until the load is gone, and you can speak with Tom Nook about expanding your home. When you do this, you can also change the roof color.

You can also upgrade Resident Services, and when you do this, you will be able to ask Tom Nook to customize your house, and you can choose a new roof color and even a new color for your mailbox.
