“If you could only bring one thing” question, how to answer in Animal Crossing: New Horizon

What should you say?
This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

When you are starting Animal Crossing: New Horizons and preparing to head out on your great adventure, there are some things you need to take care of first. You’ll need to make your character, choose an island, and answer some questions from the Nooks.

Recommended Videos

The last thing they ask you can throw players a little, as they will ask if you could only bring one thing with you to a deserted island, what would it be? You will then be given four different choices that you can pick from:

  • A sleeping bag
  • A lamp
  • Some food
  • Something to kill time

If you feel stressed, and think that there is some kind of impact on the game itself, then have no fear. This question is a cheeky PR technique from those damn Nooks. After you select an answer, you are told it doesn’t really matter because the Nooks will be setting you up with all the essentials. And, wouldn’t you know it, those essentials just happen to include a sleeping bag, a lamp, some food, and a radio to help kill the time.

It is a genius move from those sneaky Nooks, as they try to drive home the value of their offer to move you to a deserted island, so they raise your stress levels, then imply that they have everything covered. Is it any wonder the Nook empire has been in business for so long?

It’s also a nice little throwback to previous games, where the answer to questions like that did have an impact on the start of the game.
