Harden yourself, trainers. Here’s how to battle and catch the Regi trio.

In Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, three of the Hoenn region’s legendary Pokémon lay dormant below the earth. Awaiting the day that a trainer will find them to do battle.

Niantic, however, has cracked the earth from beneath out feet and brought the trio back to life in Pokemon Go. Trainers can find them in Legendary Raids. Regice was the first of the trio to be added to the game on June 21 with the others expected to come out over the next few months.

Finding the trio in a raid is simple. Battling them is not. To help you out on your quest to catch them all, we have created some tips to help you try to take down Pokémon Go’s newest Legendary Pokémon.

Battling Regirock, Regice, and Registeel

The first step on your quest is to find other battle-ready trainers who can help you on your quest. A large number of players not only increases your chances of successfully defeating a raid Pokémon, but essential to even having the strength needed to challenge one.

Niantic advises that up to 15 trainers take on Legendary Raids to give them a fair chance. Finding 15 trainers in the same spot, however, might prove difficult.

Next, you need to make sure you have the right Pokémon to take on the Regi trio. Your lineup will need strong Pokémon that are near or over 2,000 Combat Points (CP) and you must use Pokémon who have typed-moves to take advantage of Regice, Steel, and Rock’s weaknesses.

Regice is weak to Fire, Fighting, Rock, and Steel-type moves. Registeel is weak to Fire, Fighting, and Ground-type moves. Regirock is weak to Water, Grass, Fighting, Ground, and Steel-type moves.

A strong group of Fighting-type Pokémon with strong Fighting-type moves should be enough to take the trio down.

The fight won’t be easy. By using everything to your advantage, you can significantly increase your odds of defeating the trio. But battling is only half the, uh, battle. Next you gotta catch them.

Catching the Regi Trio

After beating one of the Pokémon in a raid, each trainer that participated receives a certain number of Pokéballs to catch a weaker version of the Legendary Raid boss. You aren’t able to use your Pokéballs in your bag. You must rely on the limited amount given during the raid to catch the Pokémon.

It’s incredibly difficult to capture a Legendary Pokémon. We strongly recommend using Golden Razz Berries to boost your chances of catching the Pokémon.

The trio are decently sized Pokémon so hitting them shouldn’t be a problem. But your Pokéballs are limited, so don’t fire blindly. If you fail to catch the Legendary Pokémon, you’ll need to find another Legendary Raid in a different location and start the process all over again.

Regirock, Regice, and Registeel will only be available for a limited-time as a part of Legendary Raids, so act fast to add them to your Pokedex. There is no telling when they might return to the Earth’s crust, so dig your heels in.
