Once you know the time of year to catch it, it’s essential to narrow down the time it appears. You can only find a rainbow stag during the hours of 8:00pm to 5:00am, which means you need to visit your island during the later hours if you want to try and encounter this bug.

You won’t find this bug wandering around the ground, or on the petals of your favorite flowers. You can only see it resting on the trunk of any of the trees on your island. You can cut down any tree on your island and make a tree trunk to increase the chances of a rainbow stag appearing. You can also encounter tree trunks on Mystery Tours, which you can purchase from the Nook Miles vendor.

Catching the rainbow stag is the same for any other bug. All you need to do is have your bug net equipped and have it ready to go, catching it before it flies away. Make sure to bring it to Blathers at the museum if it’s brand new to you. If it’s not, feel free to place it down somewhere on your island for decoration, or sell it to Timmy and Tommy at Nook’s Cranny for 10,000 bells or to Flick for 15,000 bells.
