Ubisoft and Massive have been updating The Division with new content on a regular basis ever since the game launched in the spring of 2016. While DLC packs have extended the life of the game on the surface, the free content that’s been released adds so much depth that the game continues to provide new challenges. This guide looks at the function of Global Events in The Division.

Global Events are PvE focused week long events that change the way the game is played. They provide opportunity for better rewards, new experiences, and new challenges. Ubisoft plans to hold one Global Event per month, and each event will feature a different theme that focuses on a specific area of the game’s lore. Almost all PvE activities can be affected by a Global Event, including main missions, the Dark Zone, Incursions, HVTs, Underground, Survival, and Last Stand game modes.

Global Events are accessed from a new Global Events area inside the Base of Operations. This area is only accessible while a Global Event is active. Global Events are one of the best ways to get Classified Gear, one of the most wanted types of equipment available in The Division.

Global Modifiers

Depending on the type of Global Event, the Global Modifiers will be different. There are three types of modifiers:

  • Global Modifier – impacts all PvE activities related to Global Events and cannot be changed.
  • Threat 1 Modifier (Activity Modifier) – expand on the Global Modifier by adding additional challenges to specific missions and can be customized based on your desired challenge level.
  • Threat 2 Modifier (Group Modifier) – combines Global and Threat 1 Modifiers and adds a group challenge. This is only available while in a group setting and typically eases the overall challenge.

Global Event Rewards

Global Events offer rewards in the form of Global Event Tokens, which can be turned into the Global Event Vendor in the Terminal. Depending on your level of modifiers and difficulty, the amount of tokens earned will vary. Two forms of caches are available for purchase: The Normal Global Event Cache and the Superior Global Event Cache. Obviously the superior cache will contain better gear but costs more tokens.

There is also a Global Event Leaderboard where you can see your ranking in comparison to other agents. Perform well enough and you might get a Classified Cache, containing a guaranteed Classified Gear item. Commendations can also be earned and vary based on the event type. A mask vanity item can be awarded by completing enough commendations. Finally, each Global Event type has three weapon skins and a vanity item set in its loot pool.

Global Event Types

Each type of Global Event focuses on a particular area of The Division’s lore. An Outbreak event, for example, relates to the Cleaners faction and expands on the narrative that we’ve already been told.
