Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 3 has just begun, and we already have a mystery on our hands. Bud the Dancing Mushroom made a brief appearance in the game a couple of days ago, before everything had switched to the new flooded map. After popping up briefly, he was then deactivated, and it would seem that we were not actually supposed to see Bud in the first place.
Prominent Fortnite leaker FortTory managed to get some video of little Bud before he was turned off by Epic, and it certainly points at something interesting happening this season. Before he vanished, you could interact with Bud and he would follow you around and top up your shields, which was very generous of him.
For Season 3, this all leads to something of a problem. The area where Bud the Dancing Mushroom was discovered is now completely underwater, and the map has changed dramatically. As of yet, nobody has tracked down Bud on the new map, and we do not even know if he is currently active in the game.
It might seem like a small thing, but Bud could have a bit impact on the game, and what might be coming this season. People are predicting that Bud was just some test code for the possibility of pets and that players will be able to unlock pets that follow them around and help them out in different ways.
We don’t know how realistic this prediction is, but we were also doubtful that the entire map would be flooded this season, and here we are ankle-deep in water. We will be keeping an eye out for more news about Bud, and any locations that he might show up in on the new map, but for now he doesn’t seem to be active in the game.
