One of the challenges in Fortnite this week is to search 100 chests. It is an odd challenge, rewarding 80,000 XP instead of the usual 35,000. It is also a very long and drawn out quest that seems to be causing people some confusion. The reason for this is that it says “Rec 4 players” beside it.Â
Some people are incorrectly reading this to mean that it requires four players to complete. We have even seen some Youtubers claim to have information about a series of quests that can only be done in squads that are coming to the game. This, to our knowledge, is not true at all, for one simple reason. You don’t need four players to finish this challenge at all, and you do not need to play in Squads for the game to count any chests you search toward this challenge.
You can very happily finish this challenge in Solos. “Rec: 4 players” does not mean that four players are required, it just means that Epic is letting you know that they recommend having four players to get this done quickly. If you are playing in a squad that any chest searched by a squad member will count, but in Solos, you will need to search them all yourself. That is it, there is no real cause for confusion around this, and Epic are not forcing you to play Squads.
Chests searched anywhere on the map will count, in Solos, Duos, or Squads. Obviously, you need to find a good balance between landing on areas with lots of chests and not needing to endlessly fight other players over them, but we would suggest just playing your matches as you normally would, and it will not take you long to complete it.
