Expeditions are hugely important in Anno 1800, as they can help you find interesting items, resources, and a whole new world to explore.
In Anno 1800, Expeditions are hugely important when it comes to expanding your city culturally, acquiring animals for the zoo, artifacts for the museum, and even finding a whole New World to play in. Expeditions can be launched when you reach the third tier, giving you access to Artisans. Much like the quests that you can do for AI players and your citizens, they will populate automatically for you.
Expeditions also come with many risks involved; they are difficult journeys into the unknown, so you need to be prepared for them to increase your chances of success.
How Expeditions And Morale Work
The Morale of your ship is vital to the success of an Expedition. If your morale drops too low, the Expedition is failed, and your ship will turn around at head home. As such, you want to give it the items and resources that provide the best chance of success. As you encounter different events on the Expedition, the success or failure of those smaller events will impact on the ship’s morale. If Morale drops to zero, then your ship is lost at sea.
Before an expedition starts, there will be several possible events at the top of the screen. These can be any of the following;
- Extra Rations
- Crafting
- Diplomacy
- Faith
- Hunting
- Medicine
- Might
- Navigation
By putting the right resources in the ship, you can give yourself the best chance of success, depending on which challenges you will face. For a full list of how various resources impact your ship and the challenges they help you deal with, I suggest checking out the excellent Anno 1800 Wiki.
The Expedition will have some encounters that will force you to make decisions about how you wish to proceed. Read all your options carefully, and pay close attention to the statistical chance of success for each one. After each choice, you can either continue the Expedition, feed the crew and the continue, which will raise moral but reduce your rations, or return home if you fear the Expedition will be a failure and you might lose the ship.
