Gigantamaxing is a new system in Pokemon Sword and Shield. Much like Dynamax, it involves enormous Pokemon, but there are some crucial differences between the two. Any Galar-region Pokemon can Dynamax if they are in the right place, such as a Gym or Arena, but only specific Pokemon can Gigantamax.

What Is Gigantamaxing?

If you find a Pokemon that can Gigantamax, they not only become bigger but their appearance changes. It is important to note that not all members of a species of Pokemon can Gigantamax. Unique variants can do so. So, while Alcremie can Gigantamax, you need to find a special Alcremie that can do it. For now, think of them like a shiny Pokemon. They’re not only rare, but they have a whole new ability.

Gigantamaxing also boosts the power of the Pokemon and gives them access to a special move set known as G-Max moves. Normal Pokemon who Dynamax cannot use a G-Max move, it can only be used by a Gigantamax Pokemon. Each G-Max Move is particular to a specific species of Gigantamax Pokémon, and regular Dynamax Pokémon are not able to use G-Max Moves. Only certain species of Pokémon can Gigantamax—and even among such species, only rare specimens can Gigantamax.

At the moment, the known Gigantamax Pokemon are Corviknight, Drednaw, and the newly announced Alcremie.

What Are G-Max Moves?

Gigantamax variants of Pokemon are the only Pokemon capable of performing G-Max Moves. Regular Pokemon in Dynamax mode will not have access to the below moves. The list provides the name of the G-max moves, the description of what it does, and the Gigantamax Pokemon that can perform the move.

  • G-Max Finale – Does damage and heals all friendly Pokemon – Alcremie
  • G-Max Stonesurge – Does damage and applies sharp rocks to the ground, enemy Pokemon who enter the battle will take damage – Dreadnaw
  • G-Max Wind Rage – Does damage and which removes any effects of moves like Reflect, Light Screen, Spikes, and Electric Terrain that the opponents may have. – Corviknight

As more Gigantamax Pokemon are revealed, we will update the below list.
