One of the most lucrative strategy for farming Legendary Shards and planetary materials in Destiny ‘s Forges 2 is also one of the easiest.
Destiny 2 players are always on the lookout for new ways to farm the multitude of materials needed to progress through the game. The latest trick uncovered to cultivating planetary materials, and Legendary Shards may be the best farming tactic currently in the game because it’s so fast and easy. It’s so easy that you don’t even need to be playing the game to use it.
That’s right; this is a way to farm tons of materials while away from your keyboard. Normally we would never condone using AFK methods to farm. But diligent Destiny 2 players have found a way to combine laziness with a sense of responsibility, making sure that pulling off this AFK farm doesn’t harm your teammates. Here’s a quick demonstration in a video from Pyro Gaming that’s currently making the rounds.
This farming trick takes place in Destiny 2’s Forges, which are a part of its Black Armory expansion. But it’s gotten attention recently because the materials that you can earn from it are necessary to acquire the sought-after Bad Juju rifle.
How to farm planetary materials and Legendary Shards
Farming the materials you want is mind-numbingly dull. If you’re looking for Dusklight Shards, head to either Bergusia or Volundr Forge in the EDZ. If it’s Microphasic Datalattice you’re after, go to Izanami or Gofannon Forge on Nessus. If you only need Legendary Shards, either one will do. Here are all the steps to materials this way:
- Enter the Forge of your choice
- Walk away
That’s all there is to it. The Forges are time-based challenges, so after 60 seconds of inactivity, you’ll automatically fail. However, Bungie has implemented consolation prizes, so even if you fail, you’ll still receive whichever planetary material corresponds to your location. Since the matches are so short, you’ll never get logged out due to inactivity, and the game automatically queues up the next Forge following your current one ends. You can leave it on all night and come back to more materials than you need. If you want Legendary Shards instead of planetary materials. You can trade your materials into the appropriate vendor (Devrim Kay in the EDZ or Failsafe on Nessus) for gear that you can dismantle into the Shards.
Farming the Forge at low Light level
There is one more crucial step to pulling off this trick correctly, though. Getting into a Forge and going AFK will doom your teammates to fail alongside you. The key is to group up with other people who are also farming. All you have to do is equip enough low-level gear to get your Light level as low as you possibly can. Forges have recommended Light levels of around 600, so ideally, you’ll want to get to around Light level 400 or so. If you don’t just have low-level gear lying around, you can buy a set from Suraya Hawthorne at the Tower.
Destiny 2’s matchmaking works by partnering you with other players of a similar Light level to yours. At level 400, you’re nothing but cannon fodder to the enemies in the Forge. So everyone you team up with at that level is practically guaranteed to be farming rather than trying to beat the Forge legitimately. Then you can rake in the rewards without incurring the wrath of your teammates or the bad karma of ruining someone else’s good time.
