This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Mega Raids in Pokémon Go pit you up against a Mega Evolved form of a Pokémon. For Mega Charizard X, you’re facing off against a fearsome opponent, but it will earn you the Mega Energy to turn your Pokémon into a Mega Evolved form. The faster you complete the raid the more Mega Energy, also known as Mega Candy, to transform them. Here’s what you need to know.

Mega Charizard X Weaknesses

Mega Charizard X is a Fire and Dragon-type Pokémon, which is different than its traditional form of Fire and Flying-type. The X variation is weak to Ground, Rock, and Dragon-type attacks. You likely want to focus on using a Ground or Rock-type Pokémon to take it down.

Pokémon to counter Mega Charizard X

The best Pokémon you can use against Mega Charizard X include Groudon, Rhyperior, Tyranitar.

Groudon is among the strongest Ground-type Pokémon you can use. It has a maximum CP of 4,115, an attack of 270, a defense of 228, and a stamina of 205. It doesn’t have outstanding defenses when fighting Mega Charizard, but it should do the job to do plenty of damage. You want to make sure yours knows dragon tail and earthquake. Because Mega Charizard X is weak to Dragon-types, having your Groudon know dragon tail means it can hit its weaknesses without being affected by any of X’s Dragon-type attacks.

Next up is Rhyperior, the Rock and Ground-type Pokémon. It’s another great choice to use against it, despite its variety of weaknesses. It has a maximum CP of 3,733, an attack of 241, a defense of 190, and a stamina of 251. Again, it doesn’t have the best defenses, but it should be effective against X’s standard attacks. You want your Rhyperior to use smack down or mud slap with rock wrecker. If you don’t have one with its legacy move, earthquake is another great option.

The final optimal choice is Tyranitar, the Rock and Dark-type Pokémon. It’s in the same boat as Rhyperior in that it has excellent offensive capabilities, despite a variety of weaknesses. Hopefully, Mega Charizard X won’t be able to take advantage of those. It has a maximum CP of 3,834, an attack of 251, a defense of 207, and a stamina of 225. Ideally, you want yours to know smack down and stone edge. Those are the best choices, unfortunately, which make Tyranitar a good one if yours knows its legacy move. The other fast move choices, bite and iron tail, won’t do well against Mega Charizard X.

If you don’t have any of the above, there are several other choices. You can use Garchomp, Golem, Seismitoad, Camerupt, Gigalith, Regirock, Golem (Alola), Reshjiram, Zekrom, Rayquaza, Dragonite, or Salamence.

After you beat it you have a chance to capture a regular Charizard.
