All changes in the Pokémon Go Mega Evolution update

Mega Evolution released to Pokémon Go as a mixed bag. On the one hand, it’s incredibly seeing the powerful Mega Pokémon fighting, and being able to take them on in Mega Raids with a handful of friends. On the other hand, attempting to Mega-Evolve your Pokémon and collect Mega Energy is a huge grind, and encourages players to buy Remote Raid passes to regularly participate in these raids. What’s worse is that a Mega Evolved Pokémon only sticks around for four hours before you have to do it all over again.

But Niantic has been listening to what players have said about Mega Evolution, and are making some changes to the system. So far, these are the first two big changes that have come to the game in a minor update.

• The Mega Energy requirement to Mega Evolve a Pokémon that has already Mega Evolved before has decreased (Mega Blastoise, Charizard, and Venusaur now cost 40, and Beedrill costs 20).
• The amount of Mega Energy that Trainers receive from winning Mega Raids has increased.

By decreasing the requirement amount trainers need to receive to later Mega-Evolve their Pokémon, and increasing the amount they receive in raids means trainers can see these powerful Pokémon more often. That’s great news, and a good change of pace. However, Niantic is not done yet. It’s planning to make even more changes, and in the future, you can expect these new additions to arrive for Mega Evolutions.

• Walking with your buddy to earn Mega Energy
• More ways to earn Mega Energy through research tasks and other gameplay
• Earning bonus Candy when catching Pokémon that share a type with your Mega-Evolved Pokémon

We don’t know when new features are coming right now, but we’ll likely see them added over the next few weeks. All of it is extremely good to see because trainers felt they were forced to purchase multiple Remote Raid passes to Mega Evolve their Pokémon once. Now, it looks like Niantic wants players to be able to do it regularly, and those who do not have the highest level can likely participate in this feature more frequently. It’s a welcome change, and we’ll see how the new changes work when they release in the future.
