Gears 5 is coming out with a new three-month system called Operations, and here’s everything we know about it.
The developers behind Gears 5, The Coalition, are eager to keep fans on their toes by preparing a wide range of post-launch content for players to keep returning to their game. While everyone loves a good round of Horde mode, they’re bringing something new to the table called Operations. Operations are going to continual change every three months, offering unique rewards, missions, focused objectives in specific game modes, weapons, and character options. Here’s everything we know about the new post-launch content coming to Gears 5.
How Do Operations Change the Multiplayer in Gears 5?
New Maps
This mode is going to contain new maps for the additional game modes, such as Horde, Versus, and new tilesets for the Map builder. These options are going to be available for free, ensuring players in the game do not cut out of content from their friends. Additionally, the new Escape game mode is going to have weekly objectives and map changes, making this a reoccurring feature.
Characters
By participating in the Gears 5 Operation objectives, players are going to unlock new characters to play in the game. These characters are going to go beyond the standard skin, and introduce a variety of different abilities the character uses in Horde and Escape. They’re going to change up the gameplay every time because these characters are going to vary what they bring to the table for a team in the respective multiplayer modes.
Leaderboards
Every good multiplayer experience comes with a leaderboard so players can compete against their friends and see how far up they can climb. The leaderboards are going to feature a competitive Ranking system with Bronze, Silver, and more levels. By breaking it up into different ranks, players can focus on those who match their playstyle, ensuring the hardcore fans are continually butting heads. This method makes it easier for casual players to keep up and interested in Gears 5’s multiplayer.
Supply Drops
When players engage in and complete a multiplayer match of any variety, they’re going to earn supply points. Players are going to grab these points to use them on supply drops, which are going to contain customization items you get to use. These customization options are going to include emblems, emotes, and more. We’ll learn more about the available rewards in the future when the first Gears 5 Operation happens.
Tour of Duty
Every Operation is going to contain a tour of duty, tracking a player’s progress during that Operation’s three-month timeline. When players complete milestones during their Tour of Duty, they’re going to gain access to free content they can use on their favorite characters. These rewards are going to consist of characters, skins, and likely weapon skins. There are going to be daily and weekly objectives available to earn more points during a Tour of Duty.
