When is the release date for The Binding of Isaac: Repentance expansion?

Finally, the final, final, final The Binding of Isaac expansion!
This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Expansion? But Edmund said Rebirth, Afterbirth, and Afterbirth+ would all be the last one! Well, turns out he got us again. Not only is there another new expansion coming out for the roguelike, but the developer says it is big enough to be considered a sequel. The Binding of Isaac: Repentance now has a coming soon page on Steam, and can be wishlisted immediately. What’s being called a final, final, final, mega expansion is currently over 90% finished. The expansion’s release date on Steam is set to December 31, 2020.

Repentance is being called “the sequel DLC you’ve always wanted” by Edmund himself. No details were given on exactly what is included in this expansion, but based on previous experience, we might figure it out. Here’s a wishlist that is also likely exactly what is included.

  • New items
  • New playable characters
  • New enemies
  • New bosses
  • New dungeon layouts
  • New story
  • New SYNERGIES

The Binding of Isaac may have felt a little bit threatened by the recent releases of other phenomenal roguelikes BPM: Bullets Per Minute and Hades. They were both clearly influenced by the massively successful cult-classic. Though the roguelike formula has existed for some time, none perfected the progression, rewards system, and replay-ability quite like The Binding of Isaac.

We can expect much more of the same bloody, gore-y, disgusting greatness we’ve come to know and love when the Repentance DLC hits Steam at the end of the year. The full update and more details are included in this Steam post from Edmund himself.
