The Mythical Pokémon Meltan took the community by storm when it was introduced earlier this fall. The small Steel-type creature is the first Mythical Pokémon that has the ability to evolve, too—Meltan can evolve into Melmetal.

But how exactly can you acquire Meltan in Pokémon Go? Luckily, there’s a new Special Research in-game that you can complete in order to get this rare creature.

There are nine parts to the “Let’s Go, Meltan” mission, each with their own unique steps. Here’s how you can get Meltan in Pokémon Go.

Step one

• Spin five PokéStops or Gyms: 500 XP, 1,000 Stardust

• Catch 10 Pokémon: 500 XP, 10 Poké Balls

• Transfer five Pokémon: 500 XP, one Egg Incubator

Step two

• Earn two Candies walking with your buddy: 1,000 XP, two Lucky Eggs

• Catch 10 Pokémon: 1,000 XP, 2,000 Stardust

• Hatch three Eggs: 1,000 XP, one Fast TM

Step three

• Catch a Ditto: 1,500 XP, 10 Great Balls

• Win two Gym Battles: 1,500 XP, three Incenses

• Battle in two Raids: 1,500 XP, three Max Revives

Step four

• Catch five Steel-type Pokémon: 2,000 XP, 4,000 Stardust

• Catch five Electric-type Pokémon: 2,000 XP, five Pinap Berries

• Earn five Candies walking with your buddy: 2,000 XP, five Rare Candies

Step five

• Evolve a Grimer: 2,500 XP, 5,000 Stardust

• Catch five Slugma or Gulpin: 2,500 XP, 20 Great Balls

• Make 20 Great Throws: 2,500 XP, five Lure Modules

Step six

• Evolve a Magnemite: 3,000 XP, one Silver Pinap Berry

• Catch five Exeggcute: 3,000 XP, one Metal Coat

• Battle in 10 Raids: 3,000 XP, 10 Ultra Balls

Step seven

• Evolve one Drowzee: 3,500 XP, 10 Ultra Balls

• Catch one Cubone: 3,500 XP, one Charged TM

• Evolve one Scyther: 3,500 XP, three Premium Raid Passes

Step eight

• Catch two Omanyte or Kabuto: 4,000 XP, 8,000 Stardust

• Catch two Lileep or Anorith: 4,000 XP, Meltan encounter

• Catch an Aerodatcyl: 4,000 XP, one Star Piece

Step nine

• Claim reward: 4,500 XP, 9,000 Stardust

• Claim reward: 4,500 XP, one Super Incubator

• Claim reward: 4,500 XP, five Meltan Candy

You’ll need to complete every aspect of the first seven steps in order to progress to the eighth step, which is where you can get the opportunity to catch Meltan. As a part of the eighth step, you need to catch two Lileep or Anorith. If you do this, you’ll be rewarded with a Meltan encounter.

It’s unclear how the encounter will work at this time, so you might want to make sure to use Ultra Balls and Golden Razz Berries to give yourself the best chance to catch Meltan and add it to your Pokédex.
