Super Mario Maker 2 released today for the Nintendo Switch, and people are wondering if you can use Amiibo with the game. In the original Super Mario Maker, you could use Amiibo to add new costumes to the game, effectively allowing you to play as any character.

Can You Use Amiibo In Super Mario Maker 2?

Unfortunately, support for Amiibo has been dropped in Super Mario Maker 2, as have costumes. Super Mario Maker 2 has four playable characters, Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Toadette, and Nintendo wanted to focus on these four characters rather than include costumes in the game.

It is a shame, as people loved building courses that worked well with a specific costume, and would pick all their course parts to work with the aesthetic. Sadly, now that the feature has been dropped, we won’t see any of these exciting courses in the game. There is a chance that the function will return in the future, but I wouldn’t bet on it. While having four playable characters will undoubtedly be helpful for people who love to build themed levels, the community will miss out on costumes.

The good news is that while Amiibo support has been dropped, Super Mario Maker 2 is an excellent game. Many new features in the course creator make it much easier to build courses, and the story mode is a lot of fun, and contains all kinds of secrets and unlocks for you to discover.
