Is Jedi: Fallen Order Open World?

Is Jedi: Fallen Order an open world game or are players going to stick with a linear adventure story?

The highly anticipated Star Wars game Jedi: Fallen Order releases Nov. 15. The game features a young Jedi padawan, Cal Kestis, who is in hiding from the Empire, five years after the Emperor issues Order 66. Players are on the run with Cal in this action-adventure title that takes them across the galaxy.

Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately, depending on your gaming preferences), Jedi: Fallen Order is not an open world game. It’s a linear adventure similar to the Metroid and Dark Souls games. When a player receives a new tool, mechanic, or force power in the game, it’s going to change the way they play and open up new areas. There’s plenty of backtracking in the game, which requires players to revisit planets. Curious explorers who go off the beaten path get rewarded through more experience points, lore about Star Wars, upgrades to Cal’s health, and force powers.

When players encounter an area they cannot go through they will get the chance to revisit it later on in their journey. They’ll have to continue with the main or side mission they’re working on, and return to it when they have the right tools. They’ll gain these new mechanics by progressing in the story and unlocking Cal’s potential as a Jedi.
