Some quests for the Merchant Alliance ask you to find chickens and catch and return them. We’ve got a list of locations for you to check as well as what to do when you’ve found the little buggers.
As one of the three factions in Sea of Thieves, the Merchant Alliance will often task pirates with quests that involve the retrieval of chickens. This isn’t just a matter of visiting a different port and loading up a few chicken coops, though. You will have to strike out on your own and track down and capture the required number and type of chickens in order to complete the voyage.
Where to Find Chickens
Finding chickens is easy. Just listen for their clucking sound. Okay, that’s a little bit of a joke, but it’s also partially true. Chickens hang out on a variety of islands and you will be able to hear them cluck around. In order to narrow down your target list of islands, we suggest checking out some of the following:
- Chicken Isle
- Marauder’s Arch
- Cannon Cove
- Old Faithful Isle
- Shipwreck Bay
- Crook’s Hollow
- Barnacle Cay
- Wanderer’s Refuge
- Salty Sands
- Thieves Haven
- Twin Groves
There are likely others, but we’ve had success with the above. You can usually spot chickens as you sail by, so you don’t need to drop anchor and get your feet wet unless you can see them. If you don’t mind resorting to more modern methods, you can try using Sea of Thieves‘ interactive map.
How to Capture Chickens
In order to capture chickens, you will need chicken coops. These cages can be obtained by talking to the Merchant Alliance vendor. It’s one chicken per coop, no sharing. So be sure to take enough of them with you. Once you’ve arrived on an island with chickens, simply make sure you’re holding the coop in your hand when approaching the chicken and press the action button to capture it. Make sure you grab the correct type of chicken, as there is no way to release a chicken from its cage once you’ve caught it. If you got the wrong one, you’ll need to kill it with your sword!
Once you have caught the required number of chickens, return them to your ship and store them in a safe place. Chickens don’t do so well under water, so be sure to keep them up high or at least keep those pesky holes plugged! Visit your nearest outpost and bring the cages to the Merchant Alliance vendor for your reward.
