All Steps & Rewards in Genshin Impact: The Peaks and Troughs of Life

The Peaks and Troughs of Life event is one of the tougher ones we've seen in Genshin Impact. Here's how it works and what you get.

The events in Genshin Impact never cease, and the latest, called The Peaks and Troughs of Life, is actually one of the toughest we’ve seen recently. Unlike previous events, Peaks and Troughs is a straight combat challenge, and one that all but requires you to have at least two teams you’ve built a little bit.

How to Complete The Peaks and Troughs of Life in Genshin Impact

The Peaks and Troughs of Life in Genshin Impact is a series of five, three-round combat challenges, each with different enemy types and amounts. To get your rewards, you need to reach certain point thresholds. You earn points by defeating enemies, but these enemies spawn infinitely, provided you can clear the current wave before the timer expires.

Each round of the challenge requires its own team, and while you can use the same team three times, you’ll want to have at least two for a few reasons. There is a separate set of modifiers, called Load and Buff Modules, that revolve around having multiple team compositions and enough unique characters to fill them.

  • Load is determined by a character’s level and frequency of use. Characters up to level 50 provide 10 Load, with level 60 characters giving 20, and so on up to level 90, which gives 50 Load. Using a character more than once, no matter their level, only gives an additional 10 Load.
  • Buff Modules cost Load and come in two levels. Level 1 Buff Modules cost 40 Load, and level 2 Modules cost 100. You can equip two Modules per team, and each combat challenge has a different set of Buffs, but you can apply the same Modules to as many teams as you like. You cannot start a Peaks and Troughs of Life challenge unless you have a positive Load score.

Once you’ve assembled your teams and chosen your Buff Modules, you can head into the combat challenge. You’ll have 100 seconds per round to accumulate as many points as possible. As you defeat enemies during the round, you will build a Pressurized Impactor gauge, shown by the round device icon at the bottom right of your screen. Using the Pressurized Impactor activates your Buff Modules and opens a brief minigame where you need to stop a closing circle at the right time for a Perfect Pressurization.

Each Perfect Pressurization you achieve increases the size of the damaging shockwave that appears once the minigame ends. Three Perfects are enough to defeat almost any boss enemy in the lowest-tier challenge.

How To Get the Highest Score in The Peaks and Troughs of Life

If you want to get the highest possible score in The Peaks and Troughs of Life, you’ll need to up the difficulty. At the bottom of the stage select screen, you’ll see a dropdown menu. There are three difficulties: Standard, Complex, and Overloaded Operation Conditions.

  • Standard lets you get the default score, providing no multipliers. Standard difficulty enemies are all at level 50.
  • Complex doubles the score you can achieve, with enemies being at level 70.
  • Overloaded increases the score by four times, and Overloaded enemies are at level 90.

The enemies don’t change if you increase or decrease the difficulty, thankfully.

Team Composition for The Peaks and Troughs of Life

As for team compositions, I recommend you bring two teams of at least level 70 that you can mix and match. If you have a well-built Hyperbloom or other endgame meta team, you might not need to consider the Buff Modules as much. Should you be a newer player to Genshin without the best limited five-star characters in the game or all the Artifacts to build them properly, you’ll need to be a bit more choosy. You also won’t be able to use as many buff modules, and you’ll have to play a lot better to get the best score.

All Rewards for The Peaks and Troughs of Life Event in Genshin Impact

The best rewards are front-loaded, so you don’t have to do too much to earn them, but if you want everything, you’ll need to play well and play with good teams.
