Best moveset for Mega Ampharos in Pokémon Go

What are the best options?

For those looking to get the most out of their Mega Ampharos in Pokémon Go, you have to consider what you want to have on your standard Ampharos. The best moveset for Ampharos does not reflect the best one for Mega Ampharos because it changes types while in its Mega-Evolved form. Not considering that can make things pretty difficult for you when you go raiding, so we want to make sure you know what moves you throw on your standard Ampharos to make it far more effective.

While Ampharos is an Electric-type, Mega Ampharos is an Electric and Dragon-type Pokémon. That means it will be weak to Dragon, Fairy, Ground, and Ice-type attacks, but it’ll be resistant to Electric, Fire, Flying, Grass, Steel, and Water-type moves. It has a maximum CP of 4,245, an attack of 244, a defense of 172, and a stamina of 175.

These are all of the moves Mega Ampharos can learn. Remember, your Ampharos has to have these moves, and then when it evolves into Mega Ampharos, the learned moves are available while in this form. The choices we are going to highlight reflect the best options while in the Mega Ampharos form.

Fast moves

  • Charge Beam (Electric-type) – 5 damage and 3.6 energy (1.6 damage per turn)
  • Volt Switch (Electric-type) – 12 damage and 4 energy (3 damage per turn)

Charged moves

  • Dragon Pulse (Dragon-type) – 90 damage and 60 energy
  • Focus Blast (Fighting-type) – 140 damage and 75 energy
  • Power Gem (Rock-type) – 80 damage and 60 energy
  • Thunder (Electric-type) – 100 damage and 60 energy
  • Thunder Punch (Electric-type) – 55 damage and 40 energy
  • Zap Cannon (Electric-type) – 150 damage and 80 energy

You don’t have to consider too many options for picking Mega Apharmos’ fast move. You want to go with volt switch as it does the most damage of the two, generating the most energy.

When it comes down to charged moves, you also have to consider that Mega Ampharos is a Dragon-type. It’s different from a standard Ampharos, making dragon pulse a more viable option while in the Mega-Evolved form. So the best charge moves will be unique, and you want to go with dragon pulse for one of your charged options. It’s an excellent damage dealer, and it’s right at the best amount of energy to make it a useful choice.

Next, you want to go with Ampharos’ standard charged move choice of thunder punch. It’s a quick, heavy Electric-type attack that is always useful, and it doesn’t cost too much energy for you to use. The other attacks that Ampharos can learn require too much energy and don’t provide all the damage you need to excel in raid battles.

Overall, Mega Ampharos is a great choice when battling specific battles. When Mega-Evolved Pokémon are useful in PvP, it’ll be a good choice, but you might find a few better Electric-type options. Make sure your Ampharos learns volt switch for its fast move, and then dragon pulse and thunder punch for its charged moves to use when it becomes Mega Ampharos.
