‘Tis the season for holiday shopping, and what better present to give your kid or friend (or even yourself) than a new video game console? Portable consoles like the PlayStation Vita and the Nintendo 3DS have slowly lost popularity, but home consoles are doing better than ever. The Xbox One and PlayStation 4 see big releases every few months, but the Nintendo Switch has the best of both worlds: playability at home and portability on the go. Here are some Switch bundles to get a little extra bang for your buck.
Best Nintendo Switch Bundle Deals 2019
Nintendo Switch with Mario Tennis Aces & 1-2-Switch (Walmart)
This first bundle is one of the more expensive bundles on the list, but also the greatest deal. The two games included in this bundle, Mario Tennis Aces and 1-2-Switch, cost $60 and $50 respectively, and when you add the $300 Switch console, you end up spending $410. This bundle takes 13 percent off that total, for a modest sum of $360. These two games have excellent multiplayer modes to keep you and your friends, or your kids and their friends, entertained for hours.
Nintendo Switch Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Edition Console (Target)
This next bundle includes the special Super Smash Bros. Ultimate edition Nintendo Switch console as well as a full download of the game for just $60 more than the ordinary console alone. In addition to looking cool, this bundle is perfect for having healthy competitions with both friends and family.
Nintendo Switch Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Bundle (GameStop)
Unfortunately, this bundle is currently unavailable online, but it’s worth checking to see if it’s available at your nearby GameStop. It includes a full download of the game, and you can choose between the usual gray joy-cons or the neon red and blue joy-cons for no additional price, which is the same price for the Switch by itself. Mario Kart 8 is another great game for family and friends, making it an excellent choice for a holiday gift.
Nintendo Switch with Choice of Game & Bonus Carrying Case + Screen Protector (Walmart)
This bundle gives you a choice between The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Super Mario Party, and Splatoon 2. These four titles are some of the biggest titles for the Switch, as players worldwide compete in Splatoon 2 daily, and EDGE Magazine declared Breath of the Wild as the “greatest game of all time.” Even if you aren’t too interested in the Paw Patrol case, this bundle saves $30 when compared to buying the Switch and one of these four games on their own.
Nintendo Switch with Choice of Game & Case (Nintendo, UK)
For UK gamers, this bundle is one steal of a deal. You can choose which color joycons you want, one of 26 games, and one of eight carrying cases. There are also various games featuring special add-ons, such as a keychain pack with The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, a Cappy hat with Super Mario Odyssey, or a sticker sheet with Kirby Star Allies. If £330 is too expensive and playing on the TV at home isn’t a dealbreaker, you can buy this bundle with the cheaper Nintendo Switch Lite instead. Aside from being solely handheld, the Switch Lite is smaller and more comfortable for younger children to hold and has a slightly better battery life (3 to 7 hours, compared to 2.5 to 6.5 hours for the original).
Nintendo Switch Lite Console with Pokémon Sword or Shield and Bonus Switch Lite Kit
For $238.99 you can get a Nintendo Switch Lite with a choice of either Pokémon Sword or Shield and a carrying case with a screen protector. For just $10 more, you can buy this bundle with a special edition of the Switch depicting the legendary Pokémon Zacian and Zamazenta. It’s the perfect bundle for any Pokémon fan who just can’t get enough of Sword and Shield.
Nintendo Switch Mario Party Bundle (Kohl’s)
Many fans love the Mario series, and Super Mario Party is no exception. This bundle is another pricey one, but in addition to the console and game, it also includes a carrying case to hold both the console and any other games. Nintendo Switch cartridges are the smallest Nintendo cartridges, being comparable in size to memory cards. Thus, having a case that holds these tiny carts will save parents and kids the frustration and loss. And of course, Super Mario Party is another game full of fun for hours that the whole family can enjoy.
Nintendo Switch with $25 Amazon Gift Card (Amazon)
With this bundle, you can decide for yourself what to buy alongside your new Switch. $25 may not get you too far with how expensive many of the games and accessories are, but if you’re willing to pay an extra 43 cents, you can buy a 128GB memory card, something that can cost upwards of $45 at other stores like Gamestop. Another option is to let kids use the gift card to buy cheap games from the Nintendo eShop–with parental supervision and caution, of course.
Nintendo Switch with Mario Red Joy-Cons, $20 Nintendo eShop Card, & Carrying Case (Walmart)
This final bundle is even better than the one above, as it is the same price as the Nintendo Switch alone and it includes special Mario red joy-cons as well as a carrying case in addition to a gift card. The card is limited to the Nintendo eShop, but there are plenty of entertaining games for the Switch that are $20 and under.
It’s worth noting whether you’ve selected the original Nintendo Switch released in 2017 or the model released earlier this year. Aside from the new model’s improved battery life (4.5 to 9 hours, compared to 2.5 to 6 hours), there is no difference in function, and that lack of difference is true for the price as well, so a few extra hours for no additional price is a no-brainer. The key to telling the difference between the old and new models lies in the design of the box: the old model’s box depicts a hand holding the console, whereas the new model’s box is predominantly red. If the box design isn’t readily available, such as in online postings (often on second-hand sites like eBay or Mercari), or if the box shows art for a game that’s been included, the back of the console should have the model number and serial number. For the old model, the model number will be HAC-001, and the serial code will start with “XAW.” On the other hand, the new model will have the model number HAC-001 (-01) and a serial number starting with “XKW.” Remember to shop smart, and have a happy holiday!
