Marvel’s Avengers is all about superhero team-ups. You can play with your friends as Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Kamala Khan, and Black Widow, taking on legions of AIM robots and various super-powered villains.
If you are wondering if you can have a buddy over and take on the forces of evil for a bit of local multiplayer split screen action, then we regret to say that it’s not a feature that is supported in the game. Marvel’s Avengers doesn’t support any form of local multiplayer, so if you want to team up with your friends, it will need to be done online. You should also keep in mind that the game doesn’t support crossplay either, so you will only be able to play with friends on the same platform as you.
The lack of split screen is actually quite understandable. Marvel’s Avengers is quite the visually intensive game, so expecting current generation consoles to be able to run it in split screen would be a bit of a stretch. The lack of crossplay is a bit more disappointing. Crossplay is becoming a sought-after feature for gamers who want to leave the limitations of the brand wars behind and just play with their friends.
There is a small chance that we may see local multiplayer come to the game at some point in the future. Crystal Dynamics plan to support the game for many years after launch, and it’s possible that the feature could arrive in a future update, although we wouldn’t bet our Helicarrier on it.
