How to get Gold Nuggets in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

All that glitters.
This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Gold Nuggets are just one of the resources you will be trying to juggle while building up your island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Getting your hands on them will mean putting in the work, and breaking some rocks.

You will have seen some rocks on your starting island, that you can smash to get your hands on resources. They can drop clay, stone, iron, and the gold that you seek. When you first start playing, you will have access to flimsy axes and other tools that can damage the rocks to get the resources. The rocks will return every day, so don’t worry about breaking them completely. Eventually, you will be able to upgrade to more substantial tools that won’t break from overuse.

The best place to go to try to find Gold Nuggets is a Mysterious Island. These one-shot islands only exist for the duration of your visit and will tend to have more resources and rocks that your own island. You can travel there using a Nook Miles Ticket that you can purchase from the kiosk in the Resident Services center.

Because of the increased numbers of rocks on these islands, it increases your chances of finding Gold Nuggets or any of the other resources that they drop. Make sure to clear out your inventory as much as you can before you go, to make sure you have plenty of space to bring back resources.
