The challenge of Torghast in World of Warcraft: Shadowlands should be enough on its own. You endure wave after wave of enemies, clamoring for the precious commodity of Soul Ash that comes from the tower, and you live to fight another day until you can convert your Soul Ash into a potential legendary. Of course, it can’t be that easy, and you’ll encounter bosses along the way. One of them is Synod, and to put it lightly, you’re not going to like this fight.
By far, Synod’s most dangerous ability is Intimidating Presence. This spell reduces the haste of your party members by 1%, it lowers received healing by 5%, and it slows your movement by 5% for 12 seconds. Oh, did we mention this can stack? You need to do everything possible to interrupt this spell, and do it quickly, because it only takes one second for Synod to unleash Intimidating Presence. It’s a spell that definitely earns its name.
Synod also uses Solidify, which grants a 2% increase to the Shadow damage you take for 20 seconds. On its own, this isn’t the worst thing in the world, but when coupled with Interrupting Slam (400 Shadow damage to everyone and an automatic cast interrupt for 1.5 seconds), it’s a nasty and potentially lethal combination. Make sure you or someone in your party can dispel Solidify, and if you have a leftover interrupt counter for Interrupting Slam, use it.
We can’t stress the need for CC and interrupts enough against Synod. If you can navigate the use of Intimidating Presence and keep your DPS up, you’ll make it through this boss, and you can screenshot the dead body to let people know this is very doable.
