How to catch Frillish in Pokémon Go

A new reward for Pokémon collectors.

You can’t capture every Pokémon the same way in Pokémon Go. Some of them only appear during certain times of the day, when a particular type of weather is out, or when an event is happening. Several Pokémon are event-related, meaning you have to grab them quickly before they disappear. A particular Pokémon many trainers will be after is Frillish, and there’s only one way to capture it in the game.

If you’re looking to capture Frillish and add it to your Pokémon Go collection, you can only do this by reaching rank 20 in the Pokémon Go Battle League. Starting on January 11, you’ll be able to receive it as a random Pokémon encounter after winning a certain amount of sets. For example, if you’re going to receive the basic rewards for the Battle League, you need to win four battles in a row to receive a random Pokémon encounter. However, if you’re using a premium raid pass to receive those rewards, you only need to win two battles in a row for a Pokémon encounter to happen. Frillish will only begin to appear following January 11.

This isn’t the first time developer Niantic has tied a Pokémon release to the Battle League rewards. Scraggy started this tradition back at the start of 2020, and when the Battle League’s first season hit, Rufflet was the rank 9 reward. These Pokémon did not remain here forever. Close to the end of 2020, these two began to appear in events and one-star raids. So even if you can’t capture Frillish by competing in the Battle League, don’t fret. It should release to the public sometime in the future.

Frillish is a Water and Ghost-type Pokémon. It has a male and female form, differentiated by blue and pink coloring, respectively. It evolves into Jellicent, which also has a male and female form of the same coloring.
