How to complete all Lunar New Year 2021 special research tasks and rewards in Pokémon Go

Lunar New Year for 2021 is the year of the Ox, and in Pokémon Go, the closest Pokémon that fits that description is Tauros, one of the original Pokémon from the Kanto region. For this week’s event, players have the chance to complete several special research tasks and earn rewards, many of them involving the chance for players to encounter Tauros. However, many of these tasks also come with mega candy for the new mega Pokémon, Mega Gyarados. We’ve listed out if Mega Gyarados is good, its best moveset, and how to beat it in the mega raids. You need 200 mega candy to evolve it, so these tasks and activities make it much easier.

The Lunar New Year 2021 event will take place from February 9 to the 14. You have until then to complete all of these tasks.

All Lunar New Year 2021 tasks and rewards

These are all of the tasks you can complete, and the rewards the come with them.

Task 1

• Transfer 12 Pokémon – 10 Poké Balls
• Catch 7 Fire-type Pokémon – Charmander encounter
• Send 1 gift to a friend – Goldeen encounter

Rewards: 20 Mega Gyarados energy, 1,000 XP, and a Miltank encounter

Task 2

• Power up Pokémon 12 times – 5 Razz berries
• Evolve 3 Fire-type Pokémon – Torchic encounter
• Send 3 gifts to friends – Magikarp encounter

Rewards: 30 Mega Gyarados energy, 1,000 XP, and a Tauros encounter

Task 3

• Use 12 berries to help catch Pokémon – 10 Poké Balls
• Catch 15 Fire-type Pokémon – Tepig encounter
• Send 5 gifts to friends – Seaking encounter

Rewards: 50 Mega Gyarados energy, 1,000 XP, and a Miltank encounter

Task 4

• Make 12 great curveball throws – 3 Pinap berries
• Catch 20 Fire-type Pokémon – Darumaka Encounter
• Send 7 gifts to friends – Meditite encounter

Rewards: 100 Mega Gyarados energy, 1,500 XP, and a Tauros encounter
