How to Complete the “Ascendant Challenge” Bounty in Destiny 2: Forsaken

One of Petra Venj’s weekly bounties is the “Ascendant Challenge.” It also happens to introduce you to the experience of ascending in the Dreaming City, a method by which Guardians can gain access to many new secrets. This guide will show help you succeed at completing the Ascendant Challenge.

Get Tincture of Queensfoil

Before you even contemplate this challenge, be sure you have some Tincture of Queensfoil on you. You will need it to gain the Ascendance buff. If you don’t have any at the moment, consult our guide on how to get Tincture of Queensfoil.

Ascend in Aphelion’s Rest

You’ll start at the Aphelion’s Rest lost sector directly below Petra Venj in The Strand. If you haven’t visited her yet, read our guide on how to find her.

As you’re entering the lost sector, drink a Tincture of Queensfoil to get the Ascendance buff. This will allow you to see into the Ascendant Plane and is critical to the next step.

Enter the Giant Taken Portal

About halfway into the lost sector, you’ll encounter a large Taken Portal. Clear out the enemies around it and jump it. You’ll enter the Ascendant Plane.

Destroy Taken Blights and Stay Alive

Once you reach the other side, you’ll be in the Ouroborea Ascedant Plane and see several shielded crystals in the center of the area. You’ll also be greeted by a large knight. Ignore all of this and start looking for four Taken Blights to destroy. Be careful not to fall off the edge as the area is treacherous and it’s difficult to see in the Ascendant Plane.

Complete the Ascendant Challenge

Once all four blights have been destroyed, the shields on the crystals will lower. You’ll know that this has occurred when you see a message in the bottom right stating “An opportunity.” Destroy all the crystals and you’ll complete the challenge. All enemies will despawn and the rewards chest will appear.

Note, if one of your fireteam members has died, they will respawn outside of the Ascendant Plane. They can re-enter the portal only while the crystals in the Ascendant Plane are shielded. Be cautious not to finish the challenge if any of your team are currently outside the Ascendant Plane because they will not be able to enter it.
