How to complete the Hoenn Collection Challenge in Pokémon Go

Catch them all before the event is over.

It’s a new week in January 2021, and this month, for Pokémon Go, it’s all about capturing a variety of unique Pokémon to lead up to the big Kanto Tour in February. This week is focused on the Hoeen region, the third generation of Pokémon from the main series. You’ll be attempting to capture several Pokémon who came from this region, and most of them will be spawning throughout the wild so you can capture them. However, a handful will be appearing in specific ways, which means you need to work out the exact method to add them to your collection before the event is over.

The Hoenn Celebration event runs from January 19 at 10 AM to the 24 at 8 PM in your local time zone.

How to complete the Hoenn Collection Challenge

These are all of the Pokémon you need to capture during the event. There are nine in total.

  • Aron
  • Bagon
  • Minun
  • Mudkip
  • Nincada
  • Nosepass
  • Plusle
  • Torchic
  • Treecko

Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip, Nosepass, and Aron will be appearing in the wild, so catching them only requires you to walk around. They should appear fairly frequently. You can get Bagon from completing specific one-star raids or by hatching five-kilometer eggs.

However, Minun and Plusle require you to complete specific field research tasks. You’ll need to find the exact ones for them to appear after completing the tasks. These field research tasks should appear from Poké Stops during the event, so ensure your field research tab is clear to acquire the three maximum you can carry.

The hardest Pokémon to catch and finish this collection will be Nincada. The Pokémon Go blog does not list it as appearing more frequently in the wild, in raids, or from Pokémon eggs. It is only listed as one of the Pokémon you need to catch to complete the collection, and because it won’t have a boost, you’ll need to find it randomly in the wild. Nincada has a notoriously difficult spawn rate, so good luck to all trainers attempting to find it.
