Customizing your ship in Sea of Thieves is the best way to show other pirates just how much time you’ve invested in the game. Let us show you how to purchase and apply figureheads, hulls, and sails to your ride.
Sea of Thieves doesn’t push a pirate’s progression for any reason other than to show off some cool customization items. None of those will make you stand out more than how you customize your ship. Unfortunately this process is both expensive and not very straight forward. Until you figure it out, that is. We’re here to tell you exactly how to purchase and apply customizations to your ship.
Purchase Ship Customizations
Each of Sea of Thieves‘ outposts will have a Shipwright Shop. Located conveniently near the docks, this is where you can purchase customizations for your ship. There are three types of customizations available:
- Figureheads
- Hulls
- Sails
As you will find out very quickly, these ship customizations do not come cheap. If you need some help earning coin, have a look at how to start voyages and solve riddles to find treasure chests.
Apply Ship Customizations
Once you’ve purchased the decorations for your ship, you may be tempted to run back aboard and find a place to apply them. Don’t! Turn back and look for the Ship Customization Chest that’s sitting right next to the Shipwright. Open it and you will be able to apply the desired customization to each of the ship’s three areas. This works the same as any of the other chests in the game, such as the Equipment Chest and Vanity Chest.
Unfortunately, this chest is not located aboard your ship, so you will have to visit an outpost in order to change your appearance. Part of me suspects it was done this way to prevent pirates from changing their appearance in the middle of an engagement with other sailors.
Now that you know how to customize your ship, you’ll want to head on over to our Sea of Thieves Guide Hub for more helpful pirate advice.
