How to earn hammer charges for the Hammer of Proving in Destiny 2

The Season of the Chosen in Destiny 2 pits players against some of the toughest war chiefs the Red Legion have to offer, led by Empress Caiatl. She and Zavala attempted to form an alliance, but negotiations fell apart, and now to cripple her armies it’s up to the Guardians to challenge her forces. When you earn the Hammer of Proving, you’ll have to use it set up a ritual that pits you against these fearsome fighters. When you defeat them, you’ll earn a hammer charge, and you need to do a little set up to do it, and start the fight.

How to earn Cabal Gold

Before you can battle Caiatl’s elite forces, you’ll need to earn Cabal Gold to make a Challenge Medallion. With it, you’ll be able to issue the challenge. There are multiple ways to earn Cabal Gold, and it’s through the usual playlist activity: Strikes, Crucible and Gambit matches, and Nightmare Hunts. While you can go through all of these activities, we’ve reliably found that completing Strikes are the best method. You can jump into a quick Strikes playlist match by hopping over to the Vanguard playlist page. All you have to do is complete one of these missions, and you should be good to go to have enough to socket a Challenge Medallion into the hammer.

How to earn hammer charges

With the Challenge Medallion socketed into your hammer, return to the Vanguard playlist and there will be a Battlegrounds playlist you can pick on the bottom left side of the screen. Pick this, and with your hammer charge equipped inside your Hammer of Choosing, you’ll complete the Battlegrounds activity and earn a hammer charge at the end. You can return to the H.E.L.M and use those charges to earn unique umbral engrams to roll for better loot.
