More coins, more problems.
This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

There are multiple ways you can find coins while exploring Paper Mario: The Origami King. The more coins you have, you can gain access to additional features, such as Toad cheers, more time for battles, and additional items and accessories to use while you play. There are some pretty easy ways to gain coins, and you don’t want to miss these opportunities.

Filling Holes

When you first start the game and have to assist in reaching Olivia, who is stuck, you have to use confetti to cover a hole to reach her. After you fill the gap, you receive several coins for doing so. While exploring the game, it would be in your best interest to explore areas to find additional holes to fill with confetti you see in the world to receive as many coins as possible. Those having trouble finding confetti, spend a little time wandering around to find things to smash to collect more. You may have to wait around for flowers to refresh before receiving more, though.

Battling

Battles are an excellent way to receive coins and are likely the best way to collect the most. The one problem with relying on battles to receive the most coins is that Mario could become hurt, forcing you to use coins to buy health items. You want to optimize your time while fighting, and discover the best solution when fighting the Folded Soldiers. Before fighting, take a look around for the nearest Save Block to preserve your progress.

Gold Items

The gold items and abilities in The Origami King are powerful, but they will break after a series of uses. You want to use them wisely, but holding onto them for too long is also an unwise decision. There’s no reason to keep these in reserve, but you want to make sure not to waste them. Gold items provide you coins based on how many enemies you hit with them. Wait for a battle with the most enemies available for you use these with, and you can find yourself with a hefty pile of coins on top of the ones you receive for completing a battle.

Always look for Toads

Another great resource to load up on a bunch of coins is to locate toads. They’re hidden all over the game, and locating them during your journey is a great way to ensure you keep your pockets full. You might feel like you’re going out of your way to finding them, but you never have to wander too far off the beaten path, and it’s worth your time to do so. You should expect to search around an area pretty often, and try to find any hint of where they might be hiding.
