How to fish in Hades

Relaxing in hell.
This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

It might come as a surprise, but you can do a spot of fishing in Hades. If you are looking for something to distract you from the meatgrinder that is trying to escape hell, then a little bit of fishing may be just what you need.

To fish, you will need to purchase the Rod of Fishing from the House Contractor. This is the little sprite that you can find beside your father. It won’t be cheap, and you will need a Diamond to be able to unlock it. This means taking out the Bone Hydra boss at the end of the second area, which is easier said than done.

You will also need to unlock some of the earlier options using your Gems before you even have the option to buy the Rod of Fishing. As such, it is a pretty well-hidden option in the game. It boils down to earning gems, and purchasing unlocks from the Work Orders page in the House Contractor options until you can get the fishing rod.

Once you have the Rod of Fishing, you will be able to fish at glowing points in the waters of Hades. Stand near the glowing area and hit E on PC, or R on Nintendo Switch, to cast out the rod. The line will bob a little bit, then on the third bob, you will catch a fish and can hit the same button to reel it in.

You need to use any fish you catch after each run, and before the next run, they do not carry over. You can bring them to the chef back in your main house and trade in the fish for Gemstones, Nectar, Keys, and other important items. It’s a great way to increase the number of these resources that you can get your hands on, because you will need a lot of them if you wish to make it all the way out of Hades.
