How to get a Kavat in Warframe

A loyal friend.

Warframe has many different options for companies, and a Kavat can be one of the most useful. These feline friends will accompany you in combat, potentially giving you important buffs and help during combat.

Getting a Kavat is a long and involved process, but is absolutely worth it, especially if you can add a Smeeta Kavat to your collection of animal friends. You will need to have played through the game’s opening hours, and have access to the Howl of the Kubrow quest, as you need an important reward from this.

Step 1: Getting your Incubator

To get an Incubator that will allow you to breed pets, you need to complete the Howl of the Kubrow questline. This is available after the Venus Junction has been completed. Once you complete the quest, you will have access to an Incubator in your Orbiter that you can use to breed pets.

Step 2: The Kavat Incubator Upgrade Segment

Your initial Incubator will allow you to breed Kubrows, but to breed Kavat’s you will need the Kavat Incubator Upgrade Segment. There are three ways to get this:

  • Purchasable from the market for 175 Platinum
  • Purchasable blueprint from the Tenno Lab in a Dojo, as long as it has been researched, for 15,000 Credits
  • The blueprint can drop from Hyekka Master Grineer enemies during missions. They are a common spawn on Hydron defense missions.

The cost for a Clan to research the upgrade segement is as follows:

  • 20000 Credits
  • 2 Neurodes
  • 6000 Alloy Plate
  • 900 Cryotic
  • 550 Plastids

The following multipliers are in effect, depending on Clan size:

  • Ghost x 1
  • Shadow x 3
  • Storm x 10
  • Mountain x 30
  • Moon x 100

Once you have the blueprint, you will need to make the upgrade segement:

  • 100000 Credits
  • 1 Argon Crystal
  • 10 Kavat Genetic Code
  • 120000 Alloy Plate

Step 3: Getting Kavat Genetic Code

You will need Kavat Genetic Code to make the upgrade segment, and for each Kavat that you wish to breed.

A Kavat Genetic Code can be purchased for five Platinum from the Market for 5 Platinum. You can also acquire Kavat Genetic Code by scanning Feral Kavats on the Orokin Derelict Tileset. Capture missions in the Orokin Derelicts are good places to do this, as you can capture the target, then search the level for these hard to spot creatures. You have a twenty-five percent chance of getting a Genetic Code if you scan one.

The Kavats are mostly invisible, appearing only as pale outlines, and will get angered and run from you if they take damage. As they are difficult to see, damaging them by accident is easy to do, so be careful about where you are attacking when you are trying to find them. It is also a good idea to remove your Sentinels weapon, as they will automatically attack the Kavats.

You will need to scan the Kavat to obtain some genetic code from it. If you have the improved Scanner that you can get from Cephalon Simaris, then you should ensure you have the Cross-Matrix Widget upgrade for it, as any successful scan has a chance to be counted as two.

Kavat Genetic Code is also affected by resource boosters, so if you have the booster that will double the number of resources you get from pickups, that will also make this a quicker process.

It is unlikely that you will get all ten genetic codes in one run, so don’t be put off it takes a couple of runs to get them all. You will need a total of 20 Genetic Code to make the segment, and breed your first Kavat.

Step 4: Breeding

Much like Kubrows, the breeding process is random, and you will not know which breed of Kavat you will get. Interact with the Incubator, then select the Kavat Breeding tab. You will need 10 Genetic Code and an Incubator Power Core. The Incubator Power Core blueprint can be purchased on the Market for 15000 Credits. You can then build it with the following resources:

  • 10000 Credits
  • 4500 Nano Spores
  • 2 Control Modules
  • 1 Argon Crystal

Once you start the incubation, you will need to wait 48 hours to get your Kavat, unless you wish to skip this by using Platinum.
