With the release of the Solstice of Heroes armor set, Guardians around the world are trying to gather elemental orbs at a disturbing rate. If you’re not in the know, these new orbs that can exist in each of the core elements of Destiny 2, Void, Arc, and Solar, are needed to upgrade the Solstice of Heroes armor set. For more details on exactly what’s required, check out our guide on how to upgrade the Solstice of Heroes armor. You may have come across these elemental orbs in your travels, but how do you actually get them, and how can you influence which elemental orb gets created? Read on.

Creating Elemental Orbs

The most important thing to note is that you must wear the full Solstice of Heroes armor set in order to generate elemental orbs. If you’re not wearing every single piece of its set, you will not generate any elemental orbs.

Elemental orbs have a chance to drop when you defeat enemies. They will not be generated on every single kill, but instead appear occasionally upon defeating foes.

In order to influence which type of elemental orb is created, you must look towards your subclass. Early testing shows that while the subclass doesn’t control the elemental orb generation entirely, it seems to be heavily skewed towards the particular element of your currently equipped subclass.

It may also be helpful to kill enemies using weapons of the same element whose orbs you want to gather. This doesn’t seem to play a huge factor, but it won’t your chances either. Keep in mind that orbs can be generated by other players as well, so be sure to play the game with friends and participate in public events where other players are present.

Generating Void Orbs

In order to have the best chance at getting Void elemental orbs, be sure to use one of the three Void subclasses. As a reminder, they are:

  • Hunter Nightstalker
  • Warlock Voidwalker
  • Titan Sentinel

Generating Arc Orbs

In order to skew the chances towards generating Arc orbs, equip one of the three Arc subclasses.

  • Hunter Arcstrider
  • Warlock Stormcaller
  • Titan Striker

Generating Solar Orbs

Solar OrbTL;DR Games • Fair Use

In order to have the greatest chance of generating Solar orbs, be sure to equip one of these three Solar subclasses.

  • Hunter Gunslinger
  • Warlock Dawnblade
  • Titan Sunbreaker

Also be aware that these elemental orbs can be hard to spot. The Arc orbs, in particular, can be difficult to distinguish from regular orbs that refill your super energy. Since there’s no harm in gathering up elemental orbs that you’re not intentionally generating, just pick up everything that’s not nailed down.
